1. Modeling

THE HEAD

The way I used plane modeling to make it. First I create a plane then I change the plane into poly. Turn into the edge layer , pressing the shift+move and you can make a plane .You can add a symmetry in the modifier list .

Personaly I like to start to edit from the nose.

You can cut edge base on the face structure .Because of making still you can not pay much attention to the five stars.


THE EYE

The eyeball is made of four parts.

THE CLOTH

Similar to like the making ofhead. I use plane to edit the general figure then you can add shell to have suitable thickness.

2. UV mapping

I used max 8’s uv tool to edit uv

3Dtutorials.sk recommendation:
To maximise the realism of your 3D clothes we recommend to use high quality clothes photo textures from the #1 texture website www.3D.sk

Take the open the uv’s line

After you edited the uv and rendering to uv map save the tga format. I suggest to edit in Photoshop.


3. Start to invent

For the better expression of my initial idea I modified the child 's action and expression and use camera to find a suitable angle.

用ZB 雕衣服~!

like the Zbrush to make cloths .Because it 's better to make the wrinkle what you want .So I put the cloths modeling which is finished editing uv into Zbrush to edit .When I finish editing cloths in the ZB

I directly put this modeling into Max .I think it's quicker to make this kind of cloths texture in ZB.

Background is a simple plane and a noise in the modifier list. Adjust the camera until you find a suitable angle .

4. LightAnd then I begin to edit light . I take a direction white light as the main light ,then I adjust the material .White light source colour can reflect the map and the material 's original colour very well .I think the relation between the light and material should be adjusted by each .The light not only have illumination but also can enrich the object 's colour and create different kinds of atmosphere

And Light 5,6,7,8,9,10,15 which I use to enrich colour and control some relation between black and white.
5. Materials1.THE HEAD’S MATERIAL

The material of the child 's face are sss fast and skin material in the MR.Skin material of the mr is divided into 3 layers it's data have direct relation to the unit of the max and the size of the modeling .
Layer 's radius is bigger the transparency is bigger .The relation between it's radius thickness and model's size is very obvious .Material's data depend on how the model's size is adjusted.
I use No 3 map in the epidermal layer colour and unscattered diffuse colour which is the inherent colour of the skin .I use No 5 map in this layer which I understand as a blood layer under the skin. This layer tends to light in red . Because I let some light red it can be seen under the skin .I add three No 4 map in the overall specular weight in order to control the light control of the light source to the skin .
I add a No 1 map in the bump to express the uneven texture

The small cloth’s material


I usually use blend when I make some uneven texture cloths .Using black and white uneven texture to make mask. You can use no reflecting deep material and add the black and white uneven texture bump map to another material .Thus you can express the cloths effect better .Fine cloths effect is obvious especially you can add a falloff to the cloths colour .Thus you can create the effect as soft like fur .In the bump using falloff you can also make the edge little uneven .

And there is some uneven effect to the camera .And the soft like fur cloths effect and granule effect were also made like this.
6. Drawing the maps

You can desaturate the texture then change the layer’s blending and adjust curves in order to reach the texture effect what you want .
I usually use the soft light blending to edit texture .

Thus you can quickly make some pore and uneven texture effect .

This is the final texture effect .

For editing fur texture freely, I edit a new layer ,then edit a piece of grey where you want to make texture .And then change this blending to soft light thus the grey is disappeared .Using dodge or burn tool to create texture in the grey field .Fur is appear like this
